Quick answer: Blackjack compares a player's hand with the dealer's hand. The aim is to finish closer to 21 without going over, but the selected table rules define how each hand is dealt and settled.
Visit Winshark ↗Card values and the target
Number cards count at face value, face cards count as ten and an ace can count as one or eleven. A hand over 21 is a bust under standard rules.

Player choices and dealer rules
Tables may allow hit, stand, split or double under defined conditions. The dealer follows the table's stated rule for drawing on a soft 17; do not assume every game uses the same rule.
Read payout and side-bet terms
Check the payout for a natural blackjack, whether insurance is offered and how side bets work. Side bets are separate wagers and can have different odds from the main hand.
